Dr. Pinto Provides You With Affordable Dental Night Guards

Many people are afflicted with bruxism, or teeth grinding. Some people may do this unconsciously during the day, but it is also a problem at night while you are asleep. Prolonged teeth grinding can cause irreversible tooth damage.  The edges of teeth get worn down and chip over time.  The constant pressure from grinding causes teeth to flex and bend.  This pressure is then transmitted to the gums and bone that support our teeth.  Which leads to gum recession and root exposure.  Teeth can become significantly sensitive as a result. Clenching your teeth while asleep is the result of some of the strongest muscles in your body tensing up, which can also cause morning headaches and stiff necks.

If you grind your teeth you should consider a night guard. The night guard, which is very similar to a mouth guard worn by athletes, provides a hard, protective barrier between your top and bottom teeth while you sleep. All night guards are custom fitted and they are constructed in the dental laboratory.  Two appointments are necessary.  During your first visit, Dr. Pinto will clinically examine your bite. The dentist will look for abnormal markings of the normal tooth anatomy and adjust your bite if necessary. Once the bite is adjusted, an impression is done with a quick setting material. The second appointment consists of your affordable dentist, Dr. Pinto, fitting the appliance and adjusting it to your bite. A dental night guard is also used as a protective measure following comprehensive dental work. It provides additional protection for new crowns or veneers.

We invite you to call or visit Dr. Pinto today if you have any questions about night guards, athletic mouth guards, or any of our preventive dentistry services. We look forward to answering your questions and helping protect your teeth and smile!
